Repeat Prescriptions

Patients on long-term medication can order repeat prescriptions using the following methods:

• Online – via the link at the top of this page if you have access permissions (you can apply for access in person at the practice)
• By email – send details of items required to brookgreen.prescriptions@nhs.net
• In person – hand the right-side prescription counterfoil in to reception with the required items clearly marked.
• By post – if you send a stamped, self-addressed envelope with your request, we will post your prescription to you.

Please note that we cannot accept telephone requests or faxes.

Collections

Prescriptions can be collected from the practice or sent electronically to a community pharmacy of your choice. If you use a specific pharmacy, please let us know so we can update your file and have your prescriptions sent direct to that pharmacy.

Provided a repeat prescription request is received by 18.00 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday; the prescription will generally be ready after 16.30 two working days later.

If you get your prescription sent directly to a community pharmacy for collection, please leave a further two days before attending the pharmacy to collect your medication.

Reviews & Guidelines

If you are on regular medication, you will be asked to see the doctor or practice based pharmacist for a medication review, at least once a year. The right side counterfoil will list the review date for each repeat medication. Notification will be given on the right side counterfoil of when any routine bloods or medication review are due. Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.

All repeat prescription drugs are subject to the following guidelines:

• The drug or drugs must have already been authorised by one of the doctors
• A prescription can only be repeated until a review date is reached (this is noted on the right hand side of your repeat prescription), then you must attend in person to see the doctor or pharmacist for review
• If a blood test is required, regardless of the number of repeats remaining, you must come and see a nurse or healthcare assistant for this to be done
• A repeat prescription can only be requested up to 7 days prior to the current prescriptions expiration
• A prescription for short term illness is not available as a repeat prescription and should not be requested without seeing a doctor
• Please only order medication that you need and not everything on your repeat list if you do not use it regularly
• If you are no longer using a drug, please inform the doctor, and please do not request it again as a repeat prescription

Electronic Prescribing Service

This practice is set up for the electronic prescription service.

This means that for most patients we can send your prescription to your chosen chemist directly saving you having to come down to the surgery.

To get your prescription sent to your chosen pharmacy you will have to ask reception to sign up.

In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free.

This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:

• those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
• those who are age exempt
• those with certain medical conditions
